Jump Creek, Owyhee County

Since my first visit to Jump Creek in Southwestern Idaho courtesy of Trevor Schultz I have gone back innumerable times. I've hiked down to many sections of the canyon above the main waterfall during Spring, Fall and Winter (Summer is reserved for the mountains...). These are the photos that I've compiled over those many hikes.

  • This is a view above the section where the two small waterfalls are. Though nothing like the Southwest's slots this is a narrow section of canyon. The dark part of the canyon in the upper area of the picture is were the creek flows from.

  • The day I was out at Jump Creek was very very windy. Using my vari-ND filter I was able to take a 15 second exposure (F/16, ISO 200) so show the movement in the bunchgrass amidst the rocks.

  • This picture reminds me of many pictures I see of the Virgin River Narrows. I particularly like the deep cut in the canyon with the moss covered rock flanking either side.

  • There were a significant amount of tumbleweeds along the trail and in the canyon. These two were frozen at the foot of the falls and provided a nice foreground.

  • Matt and I hiked far back into the canyon. We access the beginning (seen in the middle of this photo) and walked down a short section since the creek was totally frozen.
